Lib Dems welcome part-pedestrianisation pilot for Saturday Market

Liberal Democrat councillors on Beverley Town Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council have given their support for plans to pilot a part-pedestrianisation scheme in Beverley’s Saturday Market.

The majority of businesses surveyed are overwhelmingly behind the scheme, which will see an extension to the pavement area from the Grapes to the Yorkshire Bank, taking in the Kings Head and businesses on the east of Saturday Market as well as Browns.

Beverley admitted to Hansa League

Medieval Beverley, one of England's leading manufacturing towns in the middle ages, reached down through 600 years of history yesterday, to provide a much needed boost for its modern day residents, when it was confirmed from a meeting taking place in Germany, that Beverley had been accepted as a member of the Modern Hanseatic League.
Back in the 1300s and 1400s, Beverley was a thriving manufacturing town, the 10th largest in England, with wool, cloth, linen and leather produced here in abundance.

Beverley elects youngest ever mayor with 'online' Mayormaking

History was made on two counts in Beverley on Monday evening when the town's youngest ever mayor, Cllr Tom Astell, 24, was elected using virtual meeting technology.

The ancient Mayor making ceremony was conducted online, with councillors electing their new mayor from their own homes due to the lockdown restrictions.

Allowance increase for Conservative Councillors

Outrage as East Riding Conservative Councillors force through, without debate, a £10k allowance increase for one of their Members.

At today’s East Riding of Yorkshire Full Council meeting, Conservative Councillors forced through a £10k extra allowance to Conservative Councillor Ben Weeks by shutting down any debate of their plans to create a third Review Panel Chairman.

Beverley Park & Ride

Hopes of achieving an early end to the problem of commuter parking in Beverley were dealt a blow at a full meeting of East Riding of Yorkshire Council this week. 


The ruling Conservative group rejected a proposal from St Mary’s Ward Councillors to bring forward the plans to build a Park and Ride on the Minster Way southern relief road.

Prevent use of dangerous weedkiller - Glusophate

East Riding Council are being urged to phase out use of the aggressive weed-killer glyphosate that has been linked to causing cancer, in favour of safer alternatives at a Full Council meeting to be held on Wednesday (24th July 2019) at County Hall Beverley.

The weed-killer has been increasingly linked to cancer in humans as well as pets. It is the Council’s weed-killer of “first choice” and is widely used on East Riding Council land, including parks and school areas.
